Final Evaluation

Upon evaluating the work I have completed during this project, it has become clear to me that the designs that I proposed and moreover created in both my sketchbook and in the production of my final garments correlated with my statement of intent almost entirely.  In addition to this, I feel that I portrayed the desired theme of "Grow Your Own" particularly well throughout my work and it was especially prominent in my final photographs of the created garments.

As previously mentioned, portraying my "Grow Your Own" theme in all of my work was a duty that I excelled in; however this was not always an easy task.  The proposed designs for my garments incorporated the idea of using fresh vegetables as accessories for my garments which would inevitably decay.  For this reason I knew that I would have to complete production close to the time of the fashion show in order to present a fresh and "show-ready" commodity.  This really drew on my time management skills and I believe that they have improved tenfold as a result of my work on this project.  I was able to work to deadlines and complete my work on an efficient time scale even when time was scarce.  In a world of fashion, one could often be asked to produce a garment in a short period of time; what I have learnt and improved on in terms of time management during this project would undoubtedly help with this.

With the benefit of hindsight I have been able to identify many of my strengths however this has also helped me to identify my weaknesses and in turn identify what I could improve on if I were to complete a project again.  In terms of the garments themselves I encountered difficulties when using fastenings, this was particularly evident on the night of the final fashion show; with the late absence of one of my models I was tasked with fitting the remaining dress to someone new without having the time to alter it on a major scale.  Using a more versatile fastening such as lacing or elasticated material would have covered all grounds and is something that I will definitely consider in the future.  In terms of the project itself something that aroused problems was production costs; material prices exceeded my initial expectations and it became a problem trying to fund such a high standard of materials. In future projects I would try to use cheaper fabrics.  Having evaluated my actual work I felt that I equally needed to look what could have been improved on, in my initial planning.  My flatwork contained multiple imitations of food however if I were to replicate a similar project again I believe it would be more beneficial to sample real foods as it would adhere more closely to my statement of intent.
