Statement
of Intent
The
title of my FMP is "Grow your Own". I am going to complete this
project by producing at least 4 garments, one of which will be made out of real
forms of food, preserved by a technique I will be testing during the research
stage. These garments are to go upon the final catwalk, although one of the
final garments will be decaying and will be a series of photographs to go upon
my final exhibition/ in my sketchbook. I am going to try and keep this project to a minimum waste
project, using just one base material of cotton, with as little machine work as
possible. Through the pathway stages I have developed my techniques which will
help me greatly. Along with this I have gained understanding of how to collect relevant
research and this will help to produce an accurate flowing sketchbook and final
outcomes.
The influence of my FMP is the size zero debate, of which I have
done a 2000 word essay upon the pros and cons and I feel this really links into
my title of this project as there is such a link between food and fashion and
vice versa. Along with this I am going to use blogs that I have previously been
interested in linking the influence fashion has on food. The starting point for
my FMP is a picture I have seen on the Internet by a designer called “Sung” and
this is an outcome I am aiming to produce, something so professional looking,
yet using natural ingredients. I am going to research into the decaying of
vegetables and how foods such as vegetables are preserved. I will gather this
research information from primary sampling along with the Internet and books.
Within my FMP I am going to use several techniques as part of my
testing stage, some of these I have learnt in my previous project so I know what
the outcomes are but others I am going to use that are specific to this
project. These techniques will be specific to preserving and finding different
ways to make the vegetables last without going stale on one of the four
garments I will be making. For this I will have to do some research using
computers and the internet, along with this I am going to have to use software
such as adobe illustrator and Photoshop to decide what specific items of food
to use and where to place them. I am going to create a time-scale starting from
the week one to setting my final garment deadline for the catwalk date. This
will help me stay organized and on track for the best possible outcomes.
The way I will determine that my project has been successful is mainly
by how well it works upon a model especially when walking down the catwalk on
the 4th June. I will also critically review my work when its up on its final
exhibition by having a questionnaire for my peers, foundation tutors and
strangers to fill in about my garments along with my whole project including
sketchbook, choice of theme and quality. Once my project is complete I am going
to identify what the ongoing developments could be with the garment, and
already I know that this will be how to commercialize and prolong the decaying
of the live garments.
